Alien spreads an aura, and it claims the right to do that?by its very name. Thirteen years after the huge success of Angel, Thierry Mugler challenges the world of perfumery once again.

Alien is a magic elixir captured in a bottle of deep and mysterious purple?with?the shape of a talisman, reminiscent of a philosopher's?stone or some warlock object.

The creators of Alien based the composition on three main lines: warm, white amber in the base, woodsy notes in the heart, and sunny Indian jasmine in the top.

          ?

Alien was launched in 2005. Alien was created by Dominique Ropion and Laurent Bruyere.

Ok so, it’s strange because at first I loved this perfume. Suddenly, it began to rub me the wrong way and I ended up just giving it away. I could deal with smelling it on someone else occasionally, but for me, no thanks.

The cool thing about Alien is that it’s so straightforward. I only got around to trying it after months of reviews, so I was expecting something weird and complex like Angel. But, no, this smells exactly like the notes say - jasmine and amber with some wood. It’s both simple and beautiful, proving a fragrance doesn’t need umpteen different notes to be sophisticated. It’s warm, sweet, and just a tad bit earthy. Although no spice is listed in the notes, something about this reminds me of that extra pinch of clove or nutmeg your grandma sneaks into her pie recipe to make it so much better than anyone else’s. As much as I hate things that are overhyped, I have to admit I understand why this is so popular. In a sea of generic floral scents, this one cuts through all the noise and does its own thing. Sometimes going back to basics is the most genius thing a creative can do.

What can I say? I never thought that I would be enchanted with this gorgeous scent. After I smelled it in the mall, I bought this perfume to confirm that it was the same scent I sensed in the magazine. It has a unique smell. It is very heavy but sweet at the same time. It has a grapy amazing smell, with a lemony aroma in the beginning. Alien is extraordinary. I could keep smelling it all day. I could describe this as the children's cough syrup or Tylenol. It tastes the same as alien smell (if that makes sense). The perfume comes in a beautiful purple bottle with excellent packaging. It is definitely worth the money. The scent itself is appealing and irresistible to me. The top notes are jasmine, the middle notes are cashmere, and the base notes are white amber. It is also a modern and robust scent that I get a lot of complement when I wear it. It reminds me of a winter evening sitting next to the fireplace, reading a book. If I would choose between alien and other perfumes, I will definitely select alien. Alien makes me feel calm and beautiful when I wear it. This perfume is beautiful, but sadly it doesn't last on me. It only lasts for like 2 hours max before it fades away. I need to reapply or use a lot of it. I still like it. If I want it to last, I spray the perfume on my clothes rather than my body because it lasts longer. Many perfumes don't stay on me, so I use Vaseline on the places I want to spray it on, making the perfume last from 2 hours to at least 4. Overall I am happy with my purchase and recommend alien for people who like strange but astonishing smell that can transform your mood to a better place.

Love at first sniff. This is jasmine on cr*ck. I absolutely adore jasmine and this masterpiece is so intoxicating. This makes me want to twirl, skip and do jump splits. It's a beast. I only sprayed it once onto my wrist and the projection grew enormously once it started drying down. Astronomical. Alien. I totally understand how this can induce headaches in some if oversprayed. I would definitely spray this on the back of my neck instead to avoid that issue. Jasmine performs beautifully on my skin and I'm so grateful! The scent up close smells slightly different to what wafts in the air but my God this is amazing.

I love the vibrant jasmine scent in this perfume, it is indeed one of my favourite flowers, so I’m loving that it sticks out so much in this perfume, followed up by the woodsy notes once the fragrance settles. The perfume is very characteristic, is has very thick individual notes, which may make it Alien-like in a sense, and I know no scent is like it in terms of character (or out of this world-ness!), but it doesn’t make it bad! In fact, it is definitely one of my favourite scents of all time, because it is so out there and different from other scents. I think every perfume enthusiast has to try this scent!

This is the scent that started it all for me. We were hosting a Christmas party and my mom greeted her friend at the door and Alien filled up the room. I used to be the kind of person who hated smelling people from across the room, but this scent was so intoxicatingly perfect and otherworldly that I had to know what it was—it lit up something inside of me that I didn’t know I needed until then. Wow.

It smells strong, but fresh. I don’t think I hear people talking about how fresh this scent is. It can be worn year-round. I have enjoyed wearing it even on summer nights on vacation—that’s how fresh it is.

Yes, it’s become more and more common, but who cares? The scent is so recognizable and bold that I wouldn’t mind smelling it more often even if it is on other people. This perfume is special. I didn’t even know it was one of the best selling until years after I had it because most best sellers tend to be basic, but this is anything but.

Someone who wears Alien is not a follower—she’s just a trendsetter. She doesn’t follow what’s popular—she’s popular because she’s true to herself and she’s bold with her walk.

Long lasting and beautiful sillage. Try if if it fits your attitude. Why not?

This perfume was not love at first sniff. Now- I adore it and find myself wanting to wear it constantly. give it a chance, please ! THE DRYDOWN OF THIS PERFUME IS BEAUTIFUL. It has decent lasting power and projection. You get a warm, floral (jasmine) , ambery mixture . There's this aura about it though- its not a powdery perfume at all. But something about it gives the impression of that smell. Maybe the Jasmine. Its not a "typically" sweet perfume- but there is a sweet softness to it, all while being strong and bold.

Keep all bottles even after finishing (like a collector & it’s my hobby,my pleasure)Additionally to remind the scents for refreshing my memory& I also like glamarous shape of bottles.Over than 40 bottles in my make up closet and by the time it’s extending more & more.Don’t know where I suppose to arrange to keep them??.Anyways About Mugler Alien whenever I smell it,something mysterious, seductive vibe that draws me into the flanker to smell more & more.I have to say it’s a distinctive??,strange “ALIEN” out of the world perfume, different composition very sexy, such an extraordinary perfume that became a mainstream, cult perfume in fragrances world.I love it like many of us BUT....

(Apologize for BUT,but??)after in a couple minutes getting severe headache,I know many many times this had been said but I felt myself responsive to advise for whom considering to purchase...It is not a safe blind-buy.It’s better to get a sample or 10 ml and have a time with Alien to make proper decision..Because many perfumes are pricey and IMHO better to hit the target ??to find the best that I prefer nowadays

When I 1st smelled Alien years ago, it was so unique and sexy that I had to ask the woman I smelled it on what she was wearing.... I didn't remember what it smelled like when I finally bought a bottle, and I was aware that there has been a reformulation, but was still expecting something more than what I got.

It started off smelling like just jasmine. Nice, but nothing special enough to be called "Alien". Then it had a tropical burst. The sweetness is a floral-sweet. Letting it settle longer, it mellowed out more and is still a fresh scent, with a very light warmth. Almost a sprinkle of cinnamon, but not quite.

Actually now, there's a slight creaminess coming into it.

As an Indian, Jasmine scent didn't seem something exotic, and I was not happy when I first received it. I used it reluctantly a few times but grew on me and makes me feel somehow powerful and feminine. Definitely a cold winter night perfume. Otherwise it will feel suffocating. I would keep it in stock for those cold winter night outings.

For context, I'm a millenial. I blind bought a flask cheap second-hand, because it seems to have a "turning point in perfumery" reputation which I wanted to get to the bottom of. Upon opening the wrappings and smelling I was surprised: I've smelled this before in the 00's. More specifically it's like when in women's magazines they sometimes include samples, and occasionally it's a scratch'n'sniff type of thing. Alien smells like pressing your nose against the glossy paper page with frag sample from the 00's. The paper smell and the perfume smell combined. Cooling, somewhat camphorous white floral backed up by a cloud of synthetic-feeling papery/gluey mist. It might due to a personal association, but if you've ever tasted a piece of such glossy magazine paper, it tastes bitter but fragrant. Alien reminds me of chewing on pages of women's magazines as a kid. I feel like I'm being drugged and transported back in time into my older sister's bedroom. Not a favourite, though maybe has potential for Y2K nostalgia.

It is one of those fragrances either you like it or you do not. It is a very synthetic fragrance and I find it quite flat, but even the three notes listed above I cannot recognize. It shares those features with other Mugler scents: innovative scents at the time of their release, but smell quite simple and synthetic. I personnally do not like it.

This is my all time favourite scent and I’m sure I’m not on my own. It’s so beautiful and unique. It’s not for the faint of heart as it is very powerful, it’s best for a night out fragrance. It’s a gorgeous Jasmine and amber mix. I wouldn’t suggest blind buying this but it’s definitely worth testing it in the store as you might have just found your new signature scent!

Whoa. You can literally smell this from miles away LOL. It's just so darn strong but I guess that's just how Mugler perfumes are. Amber note just hit so hard in the first spray. Can bearly smell jasmine note though-almost invisible. It's hard for me to rate cuz I just have love/hate relationship with it. Very long-lasting and you only need a few sprays. Still, it's one of the strangest perfumes since it feels refreshing and suffocating at the same time. God, this is the most confusing one to rate!

This was the first Mugler fragrance I got, and it was a blind buy.

Reviews were generally rather positive, so I couldn't wait until it arrived.

On first smell, it was stunning, such a warm and elaborate fragrance, simple, yet unforgettable.

It made me check more Mugler stuff, and consequently fall in love with it.

I would say it's the most likeable Mugler fragrance, but complex and rich enough to stand out. For me, it doesn't fit any specific category - it is truly unique and beautiful.

Finally a perfume that lasts. I hate buying light fresh edt's, that fade after 30 minutes and waste your money. I always loved strong orientals and white floral notes and this is definetely a bold jasmine perfume.
The composition itself is simplistic and unique (I can easily recognize it when somebody else is wearing it) but I especially adore the strong jasmine note. I read in an article once that back then, prostitutes, courtesans and generally more sexual women wore mostly musky and jasmine perfumes. This made me love jasmine even more (I've never been an innocent lady). I mean, this perfume is pure jasmine and sex in a bottle. I love smelling it on me or even other people. It is bold, seductive and provocative but also creamy and sweet (at least on my skin).
My fiance also loves it on me. Whenever I spray it on, he can't get enough of me and he always kisses me just a few seconds longer if I'm wearing it. It's like catnip for men. I also caught the attention of some neighbours while wearing it.
Maybe not the perfect "office" scent (unless you're really brave and only use the tiniest amount possible) but it is the perfect clubbing scent or for a hot date night. Truly intoxicating. Honestly though, I believe you could wear it on any occasion, it all depends on the amount you spray. 1 spray is enough for a whole day (2 sprays is the absolute maximum, anything more should be illegal). If you are scared of bothering people around you, spray it one hour before you go out or just spray it on your hair brush.
One 'negative' though. I wish the bottle woud be glass instead of plastic. I bought the 15 ml bottle in store and I think the plastic cheapens the presentation (eventhough I adore the purple colour and unique design, it looks like a huge gemstone)

Edit: I know there is just jasmine, amber and woody notes in it but for some reason I can also smell lilac. It almost smells like fresh lilac blooming in the spring.

I've loved this fragrance since I was 12 years old. I have never in my life felt so defensive over any fragrance either LOL. When I see hate for it, I'm like... "Ok... that's on YOU though and just not YOUR preference...." LOL

It's definitely not for everyone, but for those it is for, it's usually a favorite. I am not ashamed to say this is in my top 5 favorites, and I wore it exclusively for 16 years.

I still get a bottle when I can, and it's still a favorite all these years later. Online, you see a lot of people saying this is "over worn and overrated", but where I live it's very different. I live in a very rural area of the Southeastern U.S. and no one here would know who the hell Thierry Mugler even is or how to spell it. I don't ever expect anyone to smell this and know what it is where I live. You're more likely to find a body spray dupe of Light Blue (D&G, who dat?!) or White Diamonds honestly, not Alien, Angel, Aura, etc. Those are likely worn by 0 here except myself. LVEB is not even a thing here. At all. You just won't find major house names, nothing in French, no niches of course. Britney Spears is as close as you'll get. I don't even remember how I got my first 1.0 bottle. Pretty sure I was travelling, it was definitely not here. The purchases after that, I had to dig for online for years or buy direct if offered.

So, I don't have to worry about someone commenting that I'm wearing a fragrance that's too popular, too common, everyone's signature. The perks to rural living when it comes to fragrance, I can wear whatever I want and most likely, no one is ever wearing the same one I am, or knows what it is. What's "popular" globally, is unknown. Also, it's quite a splurge for ones like that. Perfume is not something most even own here and if they do, it was a freebie sample from Clinique at the downtown mall (and that's permanently closed now). Most don't have Amazon accounts either, tbh.

I have zero shame in loving Alien so much. It's gorgeous to me, and everything about it feels perfect. Obviously, that's highly subjective and it's well known that not everyone shares that opinion LOL.

Honestly...I hope they bury me in this fragrance!

The true, original (now considered vintage) Alien is a gloriously rich, creamy, warm, and unique take on jasmine, built on a deceptively simple sweet, woodsy, musky backdrop. It it unapologetically synthetic, but not in a cheap or cloying way, as long as you are careful to not overspray. Modern Alien has lost much of the intensity, warmth, and richness. The jasmine is rather pale in comparison with the original, which was essentially true sambac blossoms on steroids. Modern Alien is nice, but it is really a mere shadow of the original. However, even if a bottle has MUGLER instead of Thierry Mugler, you can get a good formulation of Alien, if it is pre-late 2019.

          -----[Formulations & Bottles]-----
(also posted to the forum, with pictures)

          ? 2005 (Alien Debuts)

          ? Branding: Thierry Mugler
? Bottle: First bottle design. Octagonal in shape with sloped shoulders, a hipped bottle, and metal (not plastic) claws.
? Perfume: This is the 'true' original vision of Alien. It is made by Clarins. Alien is intensely golden, with deep, sweet, ambery undertones. The jasmine here smells like actual jasmine flowers, turned up to maximum volume. It is synthetic, but not in a cheap and head-ache-y way. Think neon lights versus fluorescent lights. It's a unique take on familiar notes and has a lot of character. This Alien is also famously potent.

          ? Pre-2016

          ? Branding: Thierry Mugler
? Bottle: Second version of the 60ml bottle. The bottle is now rectangular from the front with square shoulders and a triangular base. The claws are plastic rather than metal. Some adverts use a later bottle version without the bottom claw. I do not know how this fits in.
? Perfume: The scent of the perfume is identical to the first edition bottle. Still rich and beautiful. This Alien would still be considered vintage, as it is still Thierry Mugler era.

          ? 2016

? Branding: MUGLER (still owned by Clarins)
? Bottle: Third version. The bottle looks the same as the Thierry Mugler second edition (rectangular) bottle, EXCEPT it does not have the bottom claw, and instead has a notch where the gold claw should be. Some later advertisements still use the prior, clawed version of the bottle. I do not know what to make of that.
? Perfume: Still made by Clarins, but this is a noticeable reformulation. Alien is still incredibly potent, but it has lost some of the warm sweetness in the base, the jasmine is more crisp, rather than creamy, and there is an odd starchy white musk that has been added in. The original Alien did not have this strange white musk. There are vanillic tones and airy white amber tones, sure, but no laundry musk. Still a pretty good reformulation, though there are clear differences between 2016 and vintage.

          ? 2019

? Branding: MUGLER (Purchased by L'Oreal)
? Bottle: Has the sloped shoulders of the first version (octagonal shape) but the rectangular body shape of the second and third versions. It lacks a bottom gold claw.
? Perfume: The most recent reformulation, done after the L'Oreal purchase in late 2019. No longer made by Clarins, but still under the MUGLER name. Unfortunately, this is a major reformulation. While the 2016 reformulation did reduce some intensity and richness from the formula, it still retained much of what made Alien unique and lovable. L'Oreal's version drastically changes Alien. Gone is almost all of the creamy depth. It is no longer warm-toned. The white musk is amplified, so if you are sensitive to the laundry-style crispy-clean musks, this Alien can be grating. Longevity and strength are greatly decreased.

It is hard to focus on the notes and the smell itself when a perfume becomes so known. This is how you create iconic stuff apparently... TM is a genius, and all his perfumes are (were at their launch) unique and original. /Alien might have too many flankers by now, but the original is still the best I think./ It is extremely lasting and strong and beautifully white floral and sensual... but i never had it and not planning to. one reason is that in general on myself i prefer lighter fragrances but also the fact that it is so recognizable... i dont like when 9/10 ppl can tell what I am wearing

Almost every Alien flanker I've tried has been amazing on me, but I despise the original. Whereas Tom Ford's Jasmin Rouge overwhelmed me with too much heady, heated jasmine (beautiful scent, just not for me), the original Alien's jasmine smells cold and clinical and burns my nose... almost like a lab-created jasmine with an undercurrent of bleach... or an alien abduction wherein the aliens are shoving their alien-mothership-greenhouse-created jasmine into every orifice of my body.

Let me just say was not worth my money n I paid a hefty price for it. There’s really nothing I found special or exciting or interesting wasn’t really amazed by anything in it but the price I paid.

I have been excited to try this for a while. Finally got my sample and tried it yesterday. Unfortunately, this just doesn't work on me. The notes seem perfect on paper, but it is not at all what I was hoping for on my skin. Some people mentioned a grape smell and I kind of get that. I'm thinking it may be something with the type of jasmine used. I love jasmine, but this is just too cloying and synthetic-smelling. The scent was actually distracting to me all day, and not in a good way. The good news is- if you like this scent you are in luck because it seems to last FOREVER.

I’ve never been a fan of Alien.
When it came out, it just rubbed me the wrong way. Too strong, too obnoxious and chemical smelling...in a way, it was a radioactive amber, disguised as the new millennium Poison.
And you could, just like the 80’s monstre, smell/feel/taste it everywhere. For a couple of years after it came out, I avoided elevators!

Fast forward to 2020, the pandemic, time in, and the need to feel excitement and positivity. I scoured the net, and out of curiosity I ordered a 2005 limited edition, a cute 15ml bottle called The Secret Stone.
And, much to my surprise, I absolutely fell in love.
Now, I’ve tried Alien before, in modern formulas, and never liked the way it smelled on me.
But when the vintage touched my skin, the intergalactic jasmine and the extraterrestrial amber somehow took me to that planet.

Simple note list, major twists and turns. And when I wear it, there’s a moment when I’m in a solitary galaxy, light years away from Earth, somewhere in the future.
In a dark empty room, with only neon lights out the window, there’s a 60’s TV set. And when it captures a signal from Earth, from the past, there’s a commercial for Ribena. Anyone remember that ‘all kinds of berry and lots of sugar’ juice?
Well, in that precise moment, I’m in love.

And Alien basically, is the loudest, weirdest, most static jasmine/orange blossom there is. It creates a new meaning for floral. And the teeth grinding base, suddenly makes sense.
Without any similarity to Poison (well, maybe 5%), Alien feels from the future, time traveling to 1985 and being entranced by Poison. I feel as if Alien is the purple hue that still permeates elevator mirrors and carpets of Poison users back in the day. I may not love it (yet) as much as I adore Poison, but I’m actually beginning to think that I’m more of an Alien person than an Angel one.
And luckily I’ve been able to find a 2006 backup eau de parfum, so I’m set for some light years.

And also, Alien is one of the last modern perfumes where the original ad, perfectly captures the feel of the fragrance. Down to a t.
          Masterpiece.

My ex girlfriend wore this scent. It's very sexy, very unique and commands attention. This isn't just a scent that smells good, it exudes sexuality and confident, femininity. She was a very sexual, but also very graceful and proud woman and this fits that type of person. A lady in the streets but a freak in the sheets- that's Mugler Alien. You have to loom just as large as this perfume does to pull it off, but if you do, it will work wonders. Nails done, hair done, dressed to impress, confident, intelligent, strong woman. There's nothing more sexy than that..

It has that note that is very popular in women's fragrance nowadays- that crushed grape baby aspirin note...
I don't know what it is, at first I hated it, now I love it lol. The purple bottle fits this scent perfectly bc it smells purple- if that makes any sense..

One of my favorite designer perfumes for women and whenever I smell it, I compliment the woman wearing it

I love Alien. I think most reviews here has already said what Alien is all about as a perfume.
It's so unique that most people recognize it as soon it enters a room.
One time I even got called out for wearing someone else's signature scent haha
I was wearing Alien during a concert and suddenly an acquainted of mine started yelling; "SOMEONE IS WEARING MY SIGNATURE SCENT, ALIEN!?!?". I (almost shameful) admitted to her that I was wearing Alien that evening hahaha
I think that was the only time I have experienced someone noticing exactly which perfume I was wearing and said it was their signature scent. I guess that is something that only would happen with a perfume like Alien hahaha

I tried it at Ulta a while ago and it smelled like bug spray on my wrist. Absolutely hated it. It had that gross pen ink stank to it.

Then I found a sample of it in my makeup bag...I just had to try it. Give a second chance, you know?

I'm smelling it on my wrist right now, and...it's not that bad. In fact I think I like it.

Now as I'm smelling it, it definitely smells soapy, but it has some mystery to it. It's pleasant but is also kinda strange. Also still has a bug spray tone to it but I like it. The jasmine is soapy but soft and nice, and the amber makes a nice blend that adds some depth to it and makes it and "alien" scent. I agree with the reviews saying it smells "purple", definitely grape-y. Such a simple DNA smells so complicated!

Argh...I WOULD buy a bottle if I had a chance to try it on my skin again with a newer bottle. I'm certain the sample is at least 5 years old. When I get a chance to, I'll make up my mind and maybe buy a bottle of this strange frag. Until then, I'll just have to use what little juice there is in the sample vial.

I grew up sharing a bottle of Flintstones children's vitamins with both my sister and brother. There were a lot of different flavors represented in the bottle, but the only vitamin that we ever fought over was the purple vitamin... because it was a grape flavor, go figure! Yeah... we all LOVED grape and the color purple, for some reason.

Fast forward to today, purple fragrances are always something that I really love, there is something in the dynamics of seeing the beautiful purple bottle and knowing that it smells like a version of purple, perhaps the familiar grape essence - or a dark juicy plum.

For years, I have walked through the department store making the attempt each time to spray Alien on my wrists. I loved the smell of this, even though this is slightly out of my typical fragrance orbit.

This is "the Alien" in my collection. It doesn't really have any comparable perfumes that fit this exact category. I don't have anything else that even smells like this, but I really enjoy the smell of this, particularly when I have allowed enough time for the fragrance to intermingle with my own chemistry awhile, on the skin. The only fragrance that I have that is remotely similar is Calvin Klein's "Beauty" which is a trilogy of ingredients - Birch, Jasmin, and Musk.

Both Alien and CK's "Beauty" have ingredients that dance above the skin with a chemical lift that interacts beautifully with the chemistry of the skin, I believe they call this "OZONIC". Alien is decidedly more purple/grape/plum smelling - and CK's "Beauty" is more of a spa blend spruce/birch type smell. Both are very different when first sprayed on the skin, but as the fragrances dry down - they both share a very similar DNA... in fact, it would probably take an expert, highly trained nose to distinguish these two, after the first hour and a half of wear. Both share the same chemical dynamic of how they dance above the skin and interact with your chemistry.

I LOVE them both. They are about 40% different in the first spray to justify both, then as they both start drying down - they become much more similar. They both share jasmine and woodsy notes.

Alien is very distinct, if you have ever smelled this -- it is unique enough to be recognizable. For this reason, I waited a long time to purchase this and only bought a small size bottle, which is refillable.

Awards should be given to Alien because of their dedication to the planet by offering a "Refillable" bottle design. This is a nod towards helping the planet. I feel that more perfumes should move in this direction. We all love the pretty bottle, but it is always best if you can refill this at the department store - or purchase a less expensive refill bottle. This is more economical for your budget - as well as really helps the planet. This is such a kind gesture that it makes me much more of a fan of this whole fragrance brand. I will definitely make an attempt to try more fragrances in this line, just simply based on the fact that they are trying to solve a planetary concern.

          -----------

I have recently reviewed Elizabeth Taylor's Passion, and this is one that you should try if you really love the vibe of Alien. These smell different, but they are both in a similar essence, a similar vibe. They would each serve two different purposes in your fragrance wardrobe. Both have pronounced purple, plum notes in them. Both are marketed with purple bottle themes.

I have been doing lots of blind buying over the past 3 months........never owned a bottle of Alien (I own Angel and loads of Angel flankers). I don't think I have ever smelled Alien on someone (I may have, but wasn't impressed enough to ask what they were wearing). I am in my 40s and long past my clubbing days. Most of my blind buys were recommended by younger Youtubers and most did not work out. The ones I have liked are Mon Guerlain Intense, Olympia and Olympia Intense. Today, I received Zoologist "Bee" and Mugler "Alien". I've got "Alien" on my left forearm and "Bee" on my right arm. It is no contest. Bee is utterly amazing and I will write a separate review for it. Alien is very, "I didn't expect it to smell like this." I mean, when you see some people review this fragrance, its almost as if they were having an out of body experience. To be fair, I prefer amber-patchouli-honey-tobacco-vanilla-coconut-incense scents to screeching white florals. To my nose, Alien smells clean and I get ZERO vanilla.....but all sorts of white florals (jasmine in particular). If any one has ever scrubbed into surgery at a hospital, Alien smells like an intense and slightly more pleasant version of the soap we use to scrub our hands and arms. It's not offensive...it just smells really clean....almost in a medicinal way. Unlike several of the bomb blind buys that went wrong (Crystal Noir EDP, Guerlain Soufflé and Souffle Intense to name a few) I am going to keep it just because it is iconic and it didn't break the bank. Maybe it will grow on me. I will wear it when I want to smell clean, but don't want to reach for Light Blue.

I don't know what I was expecting but this is not what I expected. It is quite tame and smells of dirt. I get the jasmine, it is unsweetened, with a low profile, and there is something that feels medicinal or mentholated at the top.

It has one of the most unique scents i have ever smelled in my life. Those 3 notes are so delightfully blended. Sometimes it reminds me of that green pine floor cleaning liquid hahaha but i guess it is because of the woods. The jasmin note is definitely the main one. The only problem this has is that it is a bit polarizing, so somebody might love it or either hate it. I personally love it, everytime i wear it i feel so strong and empowered. Definitely a scent that leaves nobody indifferent.

Here’s a fragrance with a real personality that is sure to ‘alienate’ some. Alien’s unabashed luscious jasmine is like a gorgeous opera singer hitting a perfect high C note and like Prince’s butt-less pants at the Grammy's. Fun and powerful and in your face. And she stayed with me all night long... a purple/magenta neon light over my head. Not natural... grapey, carbonated, intense, fabulous.

I am wearing this on one wrist and Narciso Rodriguez for her EDP on the other, and I keep thinking that Alien is like the stripped down version of NR for her. Sharper and cleaner, as if naked, and NR with this similar sharpness, but as if consealed in elegant clothing. Anyone else having these two in their collection, highly recommend you wear them both, and please tell me what you think! Am I completely off on this or can you smell it too? Maybe off topic for a review, but it is an interesting comparison I think.

Alien is special, like a perfectly balanced dessert, tart, sweet, creamy like a fresh sorbet. I would even say it has a coldness to it; the feeling of ice on your skin, how when you remove the source of cold your skin tickles and stings for a bit before finally, you feel warm again, no pain. This is how that feeling would smell like. Pardon my comparisons.

I need the brightness that the EDT version has in the notes. I can imagine Alien EDP being perfect for layering this with some of of my basic favorites.

Ah this one is such a beautiful perfume. What I love about this one is that it stays beautiful all the way thru the dry down. Yes, this one is most definitely full bottle worthy.
I actually have a bottle from 2007, I bought it because of all the hype. I don’t usually buy any perfume on hype only but I love Mugler Angel so much that I decided to do a blind buy and I was really not disappointed. I like it very much. I actually love my old bottle much more than the reformulated one I just purchased. I had a 25% off any Mugler so I bought another big bottle of Angel and Alien and trust me when i tell u that the originals are so much better. Not saying that the reformulated ones are bad, far from it. They’re still beautiful, just don’t last as long, don’t project as well and silage is weaker too. It’s like they turned them from edp to edt.
Still worth buying and loving. Angel and Alien are the BEST of Mugler. Imho. And this is my opinion. You don’t have to agree. What make the world so great is that we are all unique, we all have our own opinions and we all react differently to almost everything. It’s a beautiful thing. And never blind buy anything. Always ask for or buy a sample first. Samples are either free in stores or very cheap on eBay. I am wearing Alien as my SOTD and ooh it’s so beautiful, I keep sniffing my hand. The reformulated on my left and original Alien on my right. Very big difference. But only in strength.

The only way I can describe this is... it smells like sexy dirt. Like, you’ve been digging with your hands, but in a really good way that actually smells good.

It’s earthy, musky, and a little floral all mixed together. Its just different, and its dry down is really musky. I really enjoy it but I haven’t purchased a bottle yet - I think because I generally prefer sweeter dry downs with a bit of vanilla in them. My husband really likes this though and I can’t stop thinking about it so I may pick up a small bottle as I bet this is lovely on a date in the autumn/winter. Great longevity and decent projection.

If there has been a reformulation then I believe I’ve tried the newer version but I can’t be sure. It’s funny how everyone says how popular this is as I can’t say I’ve ever smelt it before, but that may be why!

I finally got my hands on a vintage batch Alien, the one with "Thierry Mugler" on the box. The juice itself is darker in color.

I already tested Alien (newer, reformulated batch with "Mugler" on the box) and remembered that the scent transforms a bit more quickly; jasmine is there, but amber-woods takes over after a while. It's also a bit more soapy. I loooooove the scent so much but the lasting power is kinda meh. Projection is also not that special, my boyfriend said that he could only smell it when he leaned over me.

But this vintage batch, everyone, is bottled poison.

This is potent and overwhelming for some. Bearable only in colder weather or heavily air-conditioned room. My skin has a love-hate relationship with white flowers (I'm looking at you, tuberose) but this jasmine-bomb works super well with my skin's chemistry. It's probably due to the presence of amber and woods to warm it off. Vintage Alien is also a one spritz wonder, please don't overspray if you don't want to suffocate yourself (and others).

I won't say this is unique since it's pretty common, but I can say this is...otherworldly. Awesome for those who love bold, extra loud perfumes. It does require some confidence to pull it off, tho.

"This gives me a headache" - "It's too strong" - "It made me nauseas"- "this smells like old lady"- "they reformulated it"- "Loreal sucks" - "this is too hyped"-"smells gross"

I'm just gonna tell you one thing. People who comment those things are people that don't understand that you cannot have a real opinion about a fragrance without testing it for at least MINIMUM a week!! I absolutely hated this Alien smell the second I smelled it at the counter but I proceeded to buy the bottle because if there's hype about something... it's for a reason. I didn't understand at all. I was very patient with Alien and I sprayed it. I got headaches and I got nausea and the smell reminded me of my grandma. But you know what I remembered? I said the same EXACT thing about Delina which is now my signature fragrance. I didn't like Delina until about a month after using it and I was able to smell what everyone was smelling. I BECAME OBSESSED. SAME THING HAPPEND WITH ALIEN.

I'm one week into Alien now and OMG...... the headaches went away, the nausea did too, and I know that I personally don't like spraying this in the morning cuz it's a lil too much for me in the morning. This doesn't smell like grandma or the 80's anymore. This smells sophisticated, dark, mysterious, SMOOTH AF, it's quite subtle to me now. Every once in a while I get a very smaaallll punch of an artificial grape but not a jolly rancher grape. It's just a very LIGHT CLEAN GRAPE. this is CLEAN and slick. It's like the inside of a UFO. I'm only 25 and I feel SO CONFIDENT wearing this omgggg. I'm so happy I pushed before returning it.

TIP: if you want to know what Alien smells like FOREALS and what everyone is smelling, just spray the the inside of the perfume box and come back the next day and smell the box. THEN come back and tell me you don't like it. BET! ?? ?? ?? ?? You have to let the fragrance sit on your skin for about an hour before going out. Otherwise you will terrify yourself and others.

I received a sample of Alien edp lately and some how it smells like baby oil. I have an old mini bottle of it and the smell is very different from the new sample. This has definitely been reformulated and it smells awful.

I really hate that L'oreal ruined Alien. Same smell, different projection.

I returned the Alien my partner bought for my birthday because I was convinced it was a fake. (He got it from a grey-box perfume store, and the verification code was scratched off) But it DID smell like Alien, just...watered down.

Alien was a sillage beast and now? They fucking butchered it. It was worth the money before, but not now.

Finally I was able to buy this perfume! Happy with it. I do love it. It's a warm, sweet and (this will sound strange) medicinal scent. I don't know why but my brain tells me I am smelling camphor in it.

I don't think this is something many people would like to wear it. I don't find it bad, personally. I'll purchase it again when I run out of the one I have now.

          Now for the review.

When I first spray it, I smell the jasmine in the opening. It's very powerful and lingers in the air for some 5-10 mins before fading away. Then I smell the Amber notes and the Woodsy notes. The amber notes and the woodsy notes seem to be competing with each other. Sometimes the amber dominates the air and sometimes it's the woodsy note that wins. Occassionally, the jasmine would reappear for a second or so. The woodsy note reminds me of camphor or some ointmint we use for cold. Sometimes, it changes into an unfamiliar powedery, resinous or earthy scent which is the sweetest note I have ever smell. The thing about this fragrance is that it keeps rapidly changing. Every second/minute it changes its scent. On my skin, the scent lasts for around 4 hours but on my clothes and my handkerchief it had stayed for over 15+ hours. Or maybe it lasts longer on my skin too but because I can only smell the scent on my hands which gets into contact with stuffs and also washed with water throughout the day, the fragrance had disappeared. It's sillage is also weak. It doesn't seems to spread around the room that far.

I think this can be worn both on the day and the night. It's hard to define what occasion it would be good to wear. The scent is warm but it gives a feeling of detachment. Something impersonal. This gives me the impression that this perfume might be best suited for formal occasions. Maybe even a religious occasion. I can see people going to holy places wearing this. I find this fragrance to be something spiritual. Maybe it's because it smells like medicine to me. Self-healing. Soothing yet uplifting.

Anyway, I really love this scent. It makes me in a better mood.

This cologne was awful. Every cologne is awful these days, it’s enough to make someone die

I’m just joking! The sweet smell of the juicy, wooden cologne was beautiful. The texture and shape of the case was majestic, and reminded me of my 2nd son after drinking during birth

To conclude, this was an amazing fragrance my fellow Fragranticans and I will recommend

I am in love with this fragrance. If I weren’t such a fragrance head and had a signature scent, it would be Alien.

Alien is bold, makes a huge and polarising First impression. But once you get to know it, you will never go back. A masterpiece.

I even love how borderline trashy it is. Delicious.

Words are poor to say how much I hate this perfume. Every diva wannabe seems to gravitate towards Alien like a moth to a lightbulb. I have this sensation that I get a white hair everytime I encounter someone wearing this.

Jasmine absolut swimming in paint thinner. One spray and the entire street can smell you. 2 sprays and anyone could trace you across town.

One spray before I left the house and everybody got sick in the car including myself, it’s not for me but I know people who loves it so I suppose it’s really up to tastes what I would say is do not buy it unless you used a tester for at least a couple of days cause I’ve got a big bottle and I gave it away ....

Something's not right. I went to a perfume store the other day and decided to spritz myself with Alien, as I've loved this scent for many years now - I only just finished the bottle I purchased back in 2016. It was always the ultimate unique, strange, yet very wearable scent for me and it helped me feel like I was standing out in a crowd of Coco Mademoiselles and Miss Diors. I loved how potent it was and how organically the ingredients (only three!) married into each other to create something so complex and beautiful that no other mainstream fragrance brand has come close to recreating.

What I smelled this time was really odd. It was an identical COPY of the Alien I so loved and cherished, but...the sillage and longevity was about half the power I've come to know and the drydown...smelled sour. Like spoiled milk, left out in the sun. As if the ingredients were all still there, nothing more, nothing less, but this time they just didn't want anything to do with each other or my skin.
Then I noticed that the label no longer said "Thierry Mugler" but was simply, "MUGLER". After a bit of digging, I found out that the brand has been handed over to L'Oreal and apparently that affected the formulation of not only this perfume, but many others too.
I'm heartbroken. I just don't understand why. I was very lucky to snag a 90ml THIERRY MUGLER Alien bottle on eBay, but I don't know if I'll have the heart to ever actually use it.

People say you are either an Angel girl or an Alien girl. I am apparently neither because I dislike both fragrances lol. They are both extremely off putting to me. With Alien I get some type of spicy note that is pungent and offensive in the opening and all the way through the dry down. Glad I only ordered a sample of this and did not blind buy an entire bottle. This is not a scent everyone will enjoy and I would not wear something like this to work or in a casual setting....

Alien is a the floral equivalent of Audrey 2, its strong, it announces its presence before you enter a room and it smells so mythical and spiritual, its like the olfactive interpretation of a deck of tarot cards, this may not make sense to some people, but its the only way I can explain it.

One thing I want to debunk is the whole "If your box says Mugler its the new L'oreal formulation" theory, my first bottle of Alien (15ml) was purchased in 2017 when Clarins were the owners of Mugler and the box just had "Mugler" printed on it, my bigger 60ml bottle was purchased last year and that also said "Mugler" on the box and the juice in both bottles smells the same to me and lasts the same amount of time on my skin.

What throws me with Alien is how only 3 notes can smell so complex and "full", Sambac Jasmine, Cashmeran woods and White Amber. To me, Alien smells dirty and earthy, but I cant say it smells "sexy dirty", to me it smells like wet soil, like a jasmine bush caught in a heavy rain storm, theres also a weird hazy (menthol?) aura about this, its alluring but also aloof and a bit cold yet warm because of the Amber.

Alien lasts for DAYS on clothes, I can still smell it on my skin after showering and with only 2 sprays, it can quite easily fill a room * insert embarrassed emoji here *

The bottle is gorgeous, its fitting for the name, it reminds me of a Rupee from Zelda anyone who has ever played The Legend Of Zelda series of games will know what I'm on about, which was actually why I bought it in the first place..

Would I refill my bottle? yes, whilst it isnt one I reach for regularly, I like having this one in my wardrobe.

Alien is a perfume I'd wear when I want to feel elusive, mysterious and like I could take on the world in deep plum lipstick and a black leather jacket.

The first spray for me was minty, almost like cough syrup. Then, like a chameleon on my wrists, it started to change and mingle with my chemistry. Something deeper and richer started to come out to play and I found my nose attached to my skin, excited to see where it went next.

Right now, it's a deep, sexy Jasmine fighting tantalizing amber for dominance. It's like nothing else that I have in my ever expanding collection, and I really like it a lot. Very moody and dark.

Not a daytime scent for me. I'd wear this for date nights when I want to feel confident and sexy, steamy weekends away where I am in total control or on the back of a Harley in tight black leathers with my hair blowing in the wind.

I had a bottle of this in 2010-2011 because it seemed like a very modern and unusual (at the time) take on jasmine. To me it smelled like a sophisticated glass of jasmine coke which I really liked. I sniffed a sample and immediately knew I had to have the full bottle. Well in the end I only wore it 4-5 times because of how strong the perfume was. There was simply no way to wear this without offending everyone. I would put on one spritz of this in the morning and it would stay on the entire day and turn out be too overpowering for most social situations. People would comment about the strong perfume smell when I was in the same room. I sprayed some on my overcoat/jacket and the fragrance persisted for weeks. I tried spraying some on a napkin and then lightly dabbing my wrists with it but even that was too much. The last straw was when I used this on a day when I had to carpool with friends and they would not stop berating me for my choice of perfume - everyone rolled down their windows and made a spectacle of how suffocating it was. To them it seemed like I showered in perfume when in reality I used my "napkin method" that contained less than a single spritz of perfume. I genuinely liked the fragrance, but there was no way to wear it closer to the skin, unfortunately.

This perfume is quiet musky but soft and full of jasmine, reminds me of coming out the shower with an encapsulating jasmine scent. The perfume is powdery but very light when dry quiet creamy too. I cant quiet tell if this is for young women or an old sweet lady. i would say its more soft. it reminds me of something i cant quiet tell maybe lady gagas perfume it has the same soapy vibe which i cant lie, i enjoy. definitely more for an evening perfume though.

Oh dear, I so want to like this but it just doesn’t work with my chemistry. Jasmine, like Tuberose is hard to wear if as a prominent note, as it has a slightly plasticky temperament and that’s what my skin seems to pick up. I don’t know is it’s that or the fact the bottle I bought was on special offer in a perfume shop window (the light may have turned it), but it just smells rather off on me. I think I’ll get another bottle for comparison.

          Did they reformulate this?

back in 2016 I got a sample of the Thierry Mugler EDT and decided I would buy the EDP because I absolutely LOVED the scent!! I didn't know there would be a huge difference between the EDT and the EDP. So I ordered the Thierry Mugler Alien Edp and when it got home I immediately opened it. I sprayed it on my neck - just one little spray.
BELIEVE ME GUYS: I felt nauseous. I felt very ill. I literally almost fainted - it became black before my eyes. The scent was just waaaaay too heavy. I remember walking like a zombie towards my mom to tell her that the scent was that heavy, that I almost fainted. so she told me to bring it back to the store, which I did.

Since that moment I have never ever looked back at alien again. I got traumatized,
I loved smelling this on my friends. This became a very popular fragrance and every one had alien as their signature scent. I could smell it everywhere. So I also never felt the need to look at it again.

Fast forward 2020: I had bought the Alien Oud majesteuex. I absolutely loved this fragrance!! I started getting almost all of the -Mugler- fragrances. `The only one I didn't own was the Mugler Alien Edp. So I thought I might as well just buy it to add it into my collection. The moment it got delivered home I opened it up and sprayed it on my wrist - preparing for the worst: BUT NO: the scent was as it was alien mixed with water. It got VERY toned down. It wasn't anything like I had remembered. the scent was still the same: beautiful jasmin and amber. But just less obnoxious.

Maybe its because I was young and couldn't handle strong scents.
But maybe its because it has been reformulated?

IM DYING TO KNOW!! so guys please let me know your experience if you own both of them!

Have it in the Mugler box, which I suppose is the reformulated version. I am uncertain as to how this could be thought of as polarizing or aggressive, as it's a quite benign and inoffensive scent to my nose: clean, soft, sweetly synthetic, but not at all unpleasant. I do feel it skews a bit young as it has a distinct sweetness. Reminds me of one of those Anna Sui scents at a certain point, Secret Wish or something of that ilk.

Sillage in the first half hour is moderate on me, dries down soft and powdery.

Alien reminds me of our garden when i was a kid, a garden full of jasmine! I used to remember te smell of our garden when the jasmines are in full bloom. My grandfather used the chicken wire as our garden's roofing so the jasmines vine can go up there. Imagine how lovely it is? and not to mention, jasmine is our national flower.
Anyway, alien smells familiar to me. I didn't expect it would remind me of my childhood memories. The jasmine is dominant. It's not strong at all. On my skin, it lingers very lightly. I didn't get the woodsy notes.
Thierry Mugler's Alien is a perfection. He makes jasmine even more special.

This fragrance has always been close to my heart, I have loved and worn this perfume for the past six years and will always go back to it. It is a very intoxicating jasmine amber perfume that is very recognisable. I have had bottles of this pre reformulation and after reformulation and yes the reformulated version will never hold a candle to the more vintage bottles I do still absolutely adore this scent.

I’m new to the mugler train, but I really like the fragrances and the concepts so I’m trying to get all the original Permanent collection perfumes in full size bottles (no flankers?).

Im also new to refillable bottles. I thought my alien was broken but you actually have to screw the cap on tightly to the point that its kinda hard to unscrew, similar to a pickle jar. This allows for the straw to work like a vacuum. I just wanted to put it out there even if it seems silly because I googled why my alien is broken and people in fragrantica said it was because built up oils so i have to put the plastic cap in warm water which didn’t solve any problems and made me even more confused jajaja.

The perfume smells like straight up jasmine and amber. I believe I have the new formulation, as I don’t have the box and I purchased it online. Jasmine in perfumes can go two ways, it can smell similar to grapes such as Alien or it can smell like piss like in Liz Claiborne. The urine smell in some jasmines can just depend on your chemistry but in Alien its a really nice dark, purple and mysterious grape scent and i think its perfectly expressed by the bottle. Theres a kinda powdery dry down. This is strong for sure, but I’d imagine the original formula was even stronger, richer, and polarizing. Even though its not the original, I think our reviews of the reformulation is fine to submit online because we’ll never see the original ever again :/ thanks loreal.

Also, some fakes are going around and I’ve seen them in instagram and sadly the mugler team comments and asks to share the images. Perfume frauds are made into the biggest available sizes because it makes them the most money, thats why all the fake Aliens are full size bottles. The most common and popular one is a sickening contrast of yellow metal and bright purple glass. It looks very similar to the real Alien, yet the colors are off.

I’d say that this is a sexy fragrance, mostly for clubbing or everyday. Im actually tryna get ready for my hot girl summer so ima prolly make this one of my staples for summer 2020 who knows jajaja. This hot girl summer i gotta sexy black satin bustier dress and strappy heels. I can see myself with eyeliner, falsies, mascara, and a bold red lipstick. My hair is probably down and curly or up ina ponytail with my baby hairs on fleek. Im wearing my gold hoops and necklace and I dance to Latin music. I’ll wear tresor la nuit, but I think alien can totally be rocked all night in my description. Im a young woman now, starting my college years and im excited to make new sensory memories with my perfumes. You never knew you were happy until the years left.

I smelled this in the department store before, along with all the other Mugler scents, and I remember this one being the only one I liked (Angel I remember repulsed me completely). At that time I was very into super light floral perfumes (Chloe, Miss Dior blooming bouquet etc) so while I liked this one I rebuffed it as not for me.

During this quarantine I have gotten really into heavy, sweet scents and this one was on my radar. I thought I would go ahead and blind buy a small bottle and see what I thought.

O.M.G. This is beautiful and has instantly gone to my #1. It has the sexy sweetness I have been craving and it's a white floral so it's not straight up candy. It's dark, sexy, and interesting. I put this on at the beginning of the day and throughout the day I would get whiffs of it and think damn..I smell good haha!

I don't really get how this scent is so divisive though. Yes. it's a strong perfume, like most Muglers, but the scent is creamy, blended perfectly, and the jasmine is super welcoming imo. I have a lot of other perfumes I bought because they were 'safe blind-buys' and I think they can be much more divisive. Oh well, I am happy this one turned out so well for me. I think I have found my new obsession/easy reach perfume.

I only bought Alien last year and it was a huge disappointment considering its legend. I found the new Mugler formulation very murky and cloudy and dense and stuffy. I have this problem with a lot of designer fragrances out now where I feel like I'm being suffocated by a cloud of murkiness. I call it 'the great wall of fragrance'. I find it in Good Girl and Black Opium among others, and also to some degree here.

Fortunately, in the same week or so, I found a 30ml of the Thierry Mugler formulation in a refillable flacon as well as a 60ml refill bottle. Now we're talking.

This Alien has a shimmery, silvery icyness with a lovely mentholated quality I love. It makes it feel ice cold, but underneath the amber makes it warm at the same time. It's got a slight floral sweetness, with a bitter balsamic bite. And the woods keep it grounded. it's such a contrast of different textures. Hot and cold, light and dark, bitter and sweet. It feels almost poisonous.

I'm glad I found the old version. They will last me a few years. I will not buy the new version when they're gone.

pretty much NONE of these reviews is relevant to the reformulation of Alien that's available now. I was expecting something bold, odd, sharp. Instead I got something old-ladyish and ideal for wearing in an office provided you re-apply twice a day i.e. SILLAGE AND LONGEVITY = BAD :/ I used 4 sprays on my neck of a sample that i got (in 2020) and.... its not loud, nor does it leave an "aura" as promised. I can't imagine it is at all polarising either. Nor is it interesting. On me it is pleasant but it is very sweet, floral, weak, powdery, soapy. My partner says I smell like pot pourri. It's not terrible, but it's not 'alien'. There is a hint of something synthetic and alien, but sadly it's almost undetectable once on my skin. Longevity is terrible - sprayed it on my wrist 3 hours ago and can barely smell it with my nose pressed to my wrist. Sillage moderate in the first 10 minutes and thereafter people would have to put their face directly on my skin/clothes to smell it.

Many people mention queens when talking about Alien: drag, evil, alien. Me, I am thinking Queen of Night from Mozart's Magic Flute opera. Her soprano rage aria is piercing and unforgettable. In it, a furious mother tells her daughter to kill her - the mother's - enemy, or else. So not exactly a friendly request, but?to me it is one of the most?gorgeous pieces ever. (I am no expert by?any means, just a happy listener.)

This is Alien to me: high-pitched, strong, beautiful, and rather antagonistic.?I am a big fan, in case that should not be clear. But it is one of the many perfumes that are better on others than on me. Pretty much like I do not want the Queen of Night as my own mum!
Just joking, Alien simply does not work on my skin. :-)?

EDIT: I was writing about the vintage version, with the "Thierry Mugler", not just "MUGLER" logo.

I’m sad to say that I can definitely notice the difference in the reformulated version of Alien (L’Oreal’s version with ‘MUGLER’ on the box).

The bottle I owned back in 2016 was intense. One spray and I could smell it all day. It was so potent.

The bottle I just bought is... still beautiful but also smells quite weak and soapy. I’ve had it on for 5 hours now and I can barely still smell it on my wrists and neck! If this was the old alien it would still be going strong and projecting to everyone around me but this is no longer the case.

In a way it could be a good thing since the old Alien to me could sometimes be very cloying and strong. But I’m devastated that it doesn’t last as long. :(

Just got lucky on the auction and managed to get a 30ml pre reformulation version. The vintage version is the one that has thierry mugler on the box, where as the new reformulation just has MUGLER on the box.

Anyway the vintage version is really beautiful , the deep jasmine is really well done. I've only done a few small sprays and I can smell it on me as I go around doing errands. I can see why it's well loved to be honest.
I would buy another if it was available in the old formulation

It's defiantly alluring and It would grab my attention if I smelt someone wearing it

Still I was lucky to find one so I will only be using this on special occasions as finding big bottles of the pre reformulation is difficult

The first 'adult' perfume I owned, it was a gift. Exactly what it says on the tin: amber, jasmine, wood. Longevity beast. Sometimes feels annoyingly cloying and synthetic, other times aromatic and classy. I wouldn't wear it anymore. I imagine someone extravetic and high-energy wearing this.

I love everything about this but the synthetic quality it has. Jasmine + amber is basically my two favorite ingredients but I can't shake whatever extra chemical smell there is. Has a great dry down, where the synthetic quality begins to dissipate. 6.5/10

Synthetic floriental. I can't help but love Alien, but I'm a great jasmine fan. A bit soapy on the drydown, but a sophisticated soap! It lasts for ages on me. One of my favourites.

This one is LOUD, LOUD, LOUD with INCREDIBLE sillage and power..to the point of annoyance and disturbance.
I find this one extremely polarizing but really just odd in nature, and it is peculiar why so many love this fragrance. But to each their own!
I just find it sour, nauseating, overly strong, and above all, a very weird scent. If someone near me was wearing it, I'd go as far to say I would try to move away from that person to escape the smell.

This review isn’t even needed because alien has been around for ages and we all know what alien smells like. Jasmine-amber- woodsy scent.

From afar it smells like synthetic grape pop. Like medical grape syrup. Not my favourite smell. But when you smell closer to your skin where you sprayed, it’s just a jasmine bomb. I don’t even get any amber on my skin. Just Jasmine. It just seems kinda plain.

You have to wait a bit (for me it’s 1 hour) for it to dry down to fully appreciate the scent.

Alien is a massive jasmine bomb with a beautiful cedar vanilla undertone. It's a little synthetic, but that's the alien in it. This stuff lasts. I've owned one bottle of this before repurchasing and a bottle of the Essence Absolue. I initially thought the Eau de Parfum wasn't for me, but about two thirds into the 30mL I worked out that it was an had to own it again. One happy Mugler loving camper.

I love absolutely everything about this perfume. The bottle is adorable to me and is perfect for the name and scent of the perfume. It was love at first sniff to me, lovely violet and amber, sweet but not overly so. It definitely smells purple, if purple had a scent this would be it. Longevity is great as well as sillage but it isn't overwhelming. I think this perfume suits so many occasions and I know that I will be using it a lot. My only regret is not buying a bigger bottle! I am surprised that this perfume seems to be somewhat polarizing as I think it is a gorgeous scent. It is definitely unique but in the most wonderful way.

I picked this up as a purse spray for the first time last year. I was looking to expand my perfume collection and try new things. I made my way through a dozen frag before I found this one. I was instantly transported to warm sunny days downwind from jasmine in full bloom; just intoxicating. I picked it up immediately--I've come to realize I'm an orange blossom fanatic with jasmine a very close second.

I noticed this kept coming up on YouTube as a "clubbing" frag which didn't make any sense to me at all.

However, this is the white floral for fall and winter (IMO) that helps me remember the warmth of sunshine when the nights get dreadfully long. I'll not belabor the notes--there's "three" with jasmine being the most prominent.

Longevity is outstanding (though I understand there may have been some tweaks to the formula): 7+ hours
Projection: More than arms length in the "cold" (~40F).

I did try this on a warm fall day and was overwhelmed...she's not likely to make it out of her dark cabinet until fall/winter rolls back around.

Today I finally clicked "love" above for this magnificient perfume. It was so remarkable act that I thought that my Alien deserves a review now. Because my love story with this masterpiece wasn't the easiest one. It started already ten years ago, so 2020 is also the anniversary year for me and Alien. It's a long story but I just wanted to share it with you and I think that I own this for Alien.

So, back in 2010, I spotted this fragrance first in Fragrantica. We don't have Mugler here in Finland so we are not even able to test their perfumes. But when I saw that adorable bottle (purple is my favourite colour) and read the reviews I felt that I just had to buy it blindly. I was super excited when I found a good deal online. When the parcel came I was so thrilled that I opened it right away on the parking lot of the local post office! I was so sure that it would become my new signature scent so I sprayed...and...what a disappointment. The smell was too familiar from my childhood. Nuphar lutea. A Finnish yellow water plant that grows in the lake that is near my childhood home. Not very pleasant.

But I kept trying. After a couple wearings my dislike turned into like. Alien was "okay". Then I started to get un-compliments. Majority of Finnish people are very sensitive so they hated it even though I wore only one spray of Alien. (I always read that Alien is too popular and "everybody" wears it but here...NOPE :D) I gave up. I kept Alien on my shelf because the bottle was so beautiful and eccentric. But after 2011 I didn't wear it even once.

In 2016 something happened. I found a crazy bargain of a 60 ml bottle of Alien Eau Extraordinaire for 12 euros (!!!) in a reliable online store. Of course I decided to order it. I was worried about the water plant note but it seemed to be toned down and both me and my fiancé fell in love with Eau Extraordinaire. After that I took a risk and bought Alien Essence Absolue and Alien Eau de Toilette. And loved both. But it still took years before I reached again for the original EDP...

From the beginning of 2020 I have been craving all jasmine smelling white floral things so I've worn Alien flankers frequently. A couple of weeks ago I was cleaning my fragrance shelf and grabbed something that felt peculiar in my hand...it was, of course, Alien EDP. I hesitated a little, but finally decided to spray. I was amazed. A bright jasmine note covered up all the unpleasant waterplantness, almost like the liquid had aged like wine, so much better, intoxicating in a good way.

Now, I can't get enough of it. It's a beautiful harmony of magical contrasts. The jasmine is indeed a burst of light that clears my mind with pureness and peace. At the same time amber and woods are warm and cosy, and yes, I still do get an aquatic note, but this time the whole composition feels like swimming in a beautiful solar lake when the Finnish midnight sun shines through the midsummer night's eve. Many people say that Alien is a cold season night perfume but in my mind it's like the first warming sunshine of spring or a little by little cooling but clear Northern white summer evening.

Every day if I don’t wear Alien I crave and miss it. Now I understand why many people say that this perfume is addictive. And there's one good thing in this covid-19 situation: I can wear loud perfumes and if someone un-compliments me, I can respond that if you can smell my perfume, you are too close, hahaha. But seriously speaking, sometimes it's very hard to tolerate all this unsureness and bad news, and when my mind gets too dark, I spray an aura of optimistic jasmine around me, and soon it's easier to breath again, to forget the dystopian world when entering the extraordinary. I believe that that's the reason why perfumes were created.

My dear Alien, it took ten years to fully understand you and to know you by heart. Now I can finally promise that I want you to be mine till death do us part.

It’s definitely not a summer fragrance for me, but it’s beautiful. Intensely jasmine. Sillage for miles, lasts a good twelve hours on my skin. I’ve ordered a bottle.

I blind bought a 90mL of this (I know) and I have some THOUGHTS.

I LOVE THIS PERFUME SO MUCH.

It is such a unique scent but sadly, as so many people wear this scent, it doesn't feel as unique as it should. Be forewarned that if you want to smell 100% unique, you likely won't with Alien.

That being said, I absolutely don't care. This perfume is the ultimate 'floriental' and something that I am truly in love with.

Longevity is likely the longest in my collection (along with Angel Muse) 12+ hours, 16+ on clothing. Sillage is wide.

Overall: 10.5/10, I will always have this in my collection

Alien definitely takes some getting used to. My first impression was confusion. I couldn't figure out what the heck I was smelling. The opening smelled weird almost like bacon grease to me. Lol. The dry down smelled kind of like grape candy. But the final dry down is just lovely!! It all comes together nicely. I don't know how or why but it just does. The jasmine is very seductive. I like to wear this in the fall and winter. I wore it one rainy day in the fall and men were just gravitating towards me like crazy. It leaves a nice mysterious trail.

First of all, IT'S A LOT BETTER THAN ANGEL!
Alien is very simple in composition yet very unique and complicated. It's strong yet very classy and elegant. The jasmine is the note that stands out the most but it's blended very well with the woods and the amber which gives it the unique, out of this planet like feel so the name was a very good choice for this fragrance.
As for sillage and longevity- you don't need to spray a lot, as I said it's strong so two- three sprays are enough especially if you work in a small or crowded space because the sillage is quite heavy. It's very long lasting, more than 8 hours for sure.
I can't write this review without mentioning the bottle, beautiful and unique just as the scent, not your usual perfume bottle. funny thing, every person I gave it to smell tried to pull the top off.
I think everyone should at least try and smell it but in my opinion it's a more feminine fragrance. Another thing, I don't mind the reformulation- yes it's soapier but still AMAZING in every aspect.

Alien was a blind buy for me. I was curious to test it out even if it was to see if I hated it. The initial spray was ‘whoa jasmine!’, however the more I wear Alien the more I fall in love. It’s soft and balanced, notes of woody amber that sits close to the skin. After, a few hours I get pops of that jasmine top not but it’s more relaxed and soothing. This lasts 12+ hours. It actually surprised me how mellow it becomes on my skin. I know how polarizing Mugler scents can be...I think I found my Mugler. I recommend at least trying this one once.

For me this works when sprayed on the skin, I tried spraying this on my clothes and it didn’t smell as good as on my skin (it has some weird note that I don’t appreciate). On the skin it’s so soft and feminine even though it’s at the same time very strong and projects like crazy. This perfume is statement, not for those who don’t want to be noticed!

It's hard to believe that this perfume only has three notes in its composition. In this case, less is definitely more! The wood keeps the fragrance grounded and warm. The amber is warm and cozy. The jasmine is intoxicating and enveloping. What an aura this scent surrounds you with! Really well done, interesting and beautiful! You have to be a spirited soul to pull this off. It's not for the faint of heart. Mysterious, dark, deep, sophisticated, sensual, sexy, modern and enigmatic! The bottle is also gorgeous. At one point I was addicted to this and I would receive so many compliments when I would wear this. Alien is mysterious, hypnotic and sweet with very strong staying power. You don't need to spray a lot. I much prefer this to Angel, which I find cloying. This is softer and has a certain warmth to it. I feel as if I can detect some violet in this, it definitely smells purple. I stopped wearing it after smelling it on a lot of other people in public but who knows, maybe I will come back to Alien in the future.

          UNIQUE & INTRIGUING

'ALIEN' such a weird and unusual scent.

          Imo, this fragrance is Unisex.
Something for an older/mature man 35+ or woman around 30+

The opening smells like old pencil erasers with a hint of indian spices.

The drydown on me is a sweet jasmine note and powdery woods.
          The eraser smell prevails.

Projection is very good and long-lasting, at least 4-5 hours on skin.

Sillage is about 2 metres for the first 1-2 hours.

Its smell reminds me of the colour Purple. Or a Violet flower.
It feels like a religion from an exotic, distant land.

Works best in the evening in cooler climate.
Somehow I don't feel this fragrance will sit well in hot weather.

          I don't hate it. I don't love it either.
I'd wear it once in a blue moon when I'm bored with my signature scent.

I have a sample of this, the original formulation. It is strong! I still smell it on my clothes the next day. That said, I still dont like it. I guess its the jasmine? That top, weird note, cuz it is an odd smell for a fragrance. I retest it every few years in the hopes that I will appreciate it but nope! I like Angel (the original formula). Sales assoc would tell me that I should like this. I dont know why. I dont find ALien to be gourmand (on me anyway). It seems that the new stuff must be a ghost of what it once was if it isnt lasting. The original has legs, sillage, performance etc. Its just not a scent that I like. I wish I could describe it better.

I bought it with Slytherin in mind (because someone said that it fits the house) and promise of long-lasting performance and good sillage.

It came out as a surprise. I don't expect the scent to be so out of there. But it's called Alien for a reason so I guess it makes sense. I think this is more on the powdery side. White floral, yes, and rather odd. Not like your typical jasmine (they did say it's Indian jasmine). There is also something woodsy note that I belatedly notice.

The scent is bold (and odd, like artificial-soapy crisp clean), though with rather weak sillage, not enormous like I had been promised. It is weaker than already soft and moderate Versace's Dylan Blue. Thus I think it'll fit in any occasion. Day or night.

I think this perfume fits the color and the bottle. I understand that the scent is not for everyone. It's also not my favorite but I think it's passable for now. I kind of struggled to like this perfume but it did came around after a day or two. I suspect this fragrance would grow on me and I would love it at some point.

I don't regret buying this, this is one of a kind (alien, right?) that keeps intriguing me. I suggest trying it first in the counter or just purchasing a vial tester before deciding to get a full bottle. Because it's pretty odd, you either love it or you hate it.

Im so sad right now... I got my hands on an Alien sample from 2011, fell in love and ordered a 60ml bottle. The smell is gone after 2 hours... The reformulation made it totally different, and now Im so sad.

I saw that the boxes with the full name of Thierry Mugler on is the better, old formulation, and the ones with only Mugler on (bc of the L'oreal buy) has the new formulation...

Im a student so I dont have the money to look for and buy a "real" version of Alien, I guess I have to wait and hope they reformulate it again.

          EDIT

I had posted a review a while ago about Alien and at the time I really disliked it, as in - was REPULSED.

However, I decided to actually try wearing it one evening for a date night with my partner, because so many people say it's a "man killer", really sexy fragrance.

He ended up loving it, and it grew on me as I wore it.

Now, I can't stop sniffing the bottle. I am obsessed with it.

I think many Mugler fragrances are the same way - you might not like them in the beginning but you have to give them a chance and they end up growing on you.

I honestly don't think I can go on without this one in my collection. <3

          10/10

It's addictive, strong, sexy, sultry, and very unique.

My journey with Alien started in 2009, when a University colleague of mine was wearing it and i asked her to write down on a piece of paper the name of the perfume. It was not the first time I smelled it, so I was quite desperate to find out the name of this alluring, mysterious, very powerful perfume!
I did not hesitate and bought myself a bottle and since then I have run through 4 bottles already.

So now I am reviewing the old formulation of Alien, as rumor has it it has been watered down, but somehow I wish they did not destroy the initial formulation!

It is the most powerful perfume I have ever had, it's needless to say that the longevity is beast mode, more than 12hrs + days on clothing .In my hair it stays until I wash it.
It is very unique, it is the kind of perfume that gives you confidence and makes you feel sexy and noticed.

I was wearing it until it became very popular and mainstream in my country a few years ago, so I decided to take a pause from it, as absolutely everyone was using it.
Now that women "forgot" about it, I can wear it again, which makes me very excited. I am planning to buy a new bottle, but I am afraid that I will be disappointed if i found out it's reformulated and will not meet my expectations, as I am able to compare it with the old one.

So those that have gone through both old and new formulations, can you confirm the rumors are true?

Nevertheless, it is one of the best perfumes that will always have a place in my collection, despite the reformulations.

So iconic. It grew on me but at first I was a little offended by it...you know when someone mentions what it reminds them of then that’s all you can think of... but it’s gorgeous and simple but complex and mysterious. Lots of jasmine. Purple is the perfect color for it. This is a great perfume for flankers because the DNA is unmistakable and simple so it’s flexible to work with.

i do love alien, but i don't understand the hype / why it is constantly described as a "polarizing" scent. it's NOT polarizing... this can 100% be a blind buy for the kind of woman that likes deep, sensual, oriental scents.

when i first smelled this it immediately reminded me of my signature scent in college, which was armani code for women (intense version). obviously not a dupe, but the same kind of vibe/DNA. dark, sexy, a perfect clubbing scent. this is not THAT unique, but it is 100% likable!

Creamy , warm sweet jasmine on a vanilla ambery woody bed. I love it. I haven’t worn it for years but I just bought the new mirage , which I am head over heals with. ... so IT made me pull out the original , thinking I would not be a fan anymore. To my surprise I instantly loved the creamy ,thick ,almost milky sweet classic Alien. Bottle is also great and husband likes it.
I think this is Very sexy ! Not sure if it’s appropriate for office use but on me it works as I am mainly at home . I like this for nighttime ,dinners out and winter . However it’s spring here now and I am still a fan. It may just not work on a hot summer day. But with a light hand it just might. The new mirage is so wonderful in my opinion ,I even enjoy layering the two. MUGLER is phantastic I Hope they always bring out more master pieces and don’t discontinue to many of their older fragrances. Still sad that innocence is now only found at the Hudson Bay online .
Alien is a classic to me now ,even though it’s only 15 years old. It’s distinctive! I don’t like perfumes that smell like everyone else or can’t be told apart from hundreds of others.
I now have to try the edt as well. I have never had it before.

          I′ve been curious about this one for a really long time now and after having seen so many positive reviews by youtubers the expectations were quite high. Yesterday I finally got my hands on a sample so I could try it and my first thought was;

"Aha!, there's that loud, obnoxious perfume I've smelled so many times at work worn by teenagers and women in their early twenties!".

It is intense and very loud. You shouldn't wear it if you don't want to get noticed by everyone around you because trust me - you won't go unnoticed and I suspect a lot of people will frown. This is in the "bothering-people-category" and rest assured- those who are allergic to perfume will definitely be bothered.

Having said that, the scent itself is mysterious and sort of beautiful had it only been half as powerful. It′s the power of it that makes it obnoxious, to me at least.

So I'm glad I didn't blindbuy it because this one is absolutely not for everyone and highly overrated.

The EdT however, is beautiful and much lighter/softer. It doesn't have that mysterious weird heavy kind of note that puts you off (puts me off anyway). It smells mostly of jasmine and amber according to my nose. It′s clean and warm somehow. So for those of you who like Alien and it′s DNA, but can't stand it′s power; I can definitely recommend you to get the EdT :)

Longevity: Insane. I tried to wash it off (with scented soap) and it didn't work. Had to wash 3 times to get it off me.

          Sillage: Extreme. 4 meters easily.

This is one of the most likeable fragrances I own. Beast mode performance.

The initial burst is a warm, sweet and playful amber that is so indulgent, it’s almost mouthwatering. Then a beautiful, indolic jasmine emerges with a sweet sandalwood base. It’s feminine and versatile for all seasons and occasions.

I used to douse myself in this before work and received endless compliments, particularly as a first impression fragrance. The dry down is beautiful and this fragrance is consistently excellent and reliable. There is an almost herbaceous cooling effect in the base which adds an air of mystery.

I love this scent. It’s overly sweet like a grape lollipop or grape slushy mixed with florals. Sounds strange I know but I love the way the notes mesh. It lasts an extremely long time and the sillage can fill a room. The scent is stronger during hotter humid weather. It’s extra sweet but sexy at the same time. If you like sweet scents such as the Prada Candy line you’ll like this one.

Maybe this is unfair because I wouldn’t have made this connection if I hadn’t read someone else’s review, but I agree that it smells like Avon Skin So Soft Body oil. That’s not a bad thing! I looove skin so soft. But, I’m a little confused about what the hype was all about. So far this doesn’t seem that strong to me at all. I have three sprays on my wrists and one on the collar of my shirt. My husband hasn’t noticed yet and I only catch whifs once in a while. Smells very clean, slightly masculine/cologny, very nice. But not head turning amazing. I’ll keep trying it though, see if something develops to surprise me
Update. I had my husband sniff my wrist and he said it smelled kind of old lady. (He thinks anything powdery/floral is “old lady.”)
Update again: I’ve worn this several times now. I can now tell that it does have amazing longevity. Still smell it on clothes the next day. But I’m so confused what all the hype was about. To me, this is very detergent-y. A super strong soapy detergent smell. Again, not bad. But to me it does not seem like an evening event at all. I would wear this daytime as an every day, clean, boring scent, if it weren’t so expensive. This is the most I’ve ever spent on a perfume per ounce, (I’m a bargain hunter) so I’m not sure what to do with it. I’ll wear it when I am out for the day doing whatever, and want my perfume to last long, but definitely not for dressing up. I won’t be repurchasing once it’s gone solely because of the price.

I really don't understand this one. At first I didn't like it. I got that medicinal smell that others have mentioned, and I know it's not fair to the fragrance, but I washed it off after like an hour. But the second time I used it, I just avoided smelling my wrists for the first hour, and after that I found it to be a nice, unremarkable, close-to-the-skin scent. Maybe even a little boring.

My husband seemed to have a similar experience. The first time I wore it, he said it smelled exactly like these little seashell-shaped soaps (say that 5 times fast!) that his grandma always had, and he thought it was old-ladyish and bug-sprayish. He was decidedly not a fan. But the second time I tried it, he had a completely different reaction. I gave him a hug and he couldn't smell anything, so I asked him to smell my wrist. He said, "This is sexy! Like you're in a dark room with a woman who's ready to go."

Seriously you guys, all I smell is vanilla and musk (I know, I know, those notes aren't even listed). Maybe a hint of jasmine. Snooze. But after his reaction, I think Alien deserves a good, solid test-drive.

I avoided this scent for years, partly because of the purple bottle. I didn’t get the fuss. I was on Team Angel (although I find it both too common and distinctive to wears these days).
A couple months ago I found a sample vial in a long lost makeup bag. The first spray seemed to confirm my initial impressions. Bug Spray. I hated it.
But fragrance is a funny thing. My five year old sons (who have excellent, discerning noses) both thought this was a beautiful, dreamy scent. And the more I sniffed, the more I concurred. No more bug spray. I absolutely adore it. There are some medicinal notes in the opening (which I actually don’t mind), but after that I get luscious jasmine and woods all day.
It leaves a trail and people will notice you. For me, it feels like it doesn’t project but every time I wear it people follow me around sniffing and I ALWAYS get effusive compliments.
I was wrong and had been missing out for years but now I finally get the fuss.

Alien has made a liar out of me. For so long I’ve circled around Alien thinking, “I just don’t know if I like this.” It’s a strange grape jasmine meant to confound you. Finally today I went to the beauty counter and sprayed it. While I was smelling it I thought, “You just don’t know about what? About this deliciousness?” Alien finally won me over. I’m wearing it right now and I just don’t know why it took me so long to connect with it. Honestly, it’s amazing. That amber combined with the jasmine is too amazing. It’s one of the creamiest, smooth, sweetest most addictive fragrances I have now. I’m a convert in the house of Mugler.

The scent is divine. It is long lasting. It is floral, warm, a bit masculine...It is perfect. The projection though is below zero.I don't feel it. I got to know Alien back in 2009. That time not alot of people were wearing it. I loved it but reacted allergic to it and sold it. Silage and projection were unexampled. The strongest Scent I had ever smelled that time. When you even sprayed it once, you had filled the rooms as soon as you stepped in.

Today I got my new bottle I ordered and it is not recognizable to me. If a reformulation goes from 0 to 100%, They did it 80% without any doubt. If I had smelled it without knowing it's Alien, I would have not guessed it.
This formula is really wearable without screaming. It's usable for day and night time due to your dosage. I will use it more then the first Alien but the first one was really an Alien and this is more like Aliens come in peace with a white flag. XX

Upon my research of looking for perfumes that were worth my money, this scent KEPT coming up on YouTube. I tested it at Ulta and when I tell you it is LOVELY. Longevity is awesome and the scent is just beautiful, captivating and simplistic...which is not a bad thing. Many of the perfume lovers on YouTube warned about not over spraying, they even said that it might not be appropriate for work. I can understand the warning, because it is not a wimpy fragrance. However, I'm here to say that I am bold enough to spray this 4-5 times, at least an hour before I GO TO WORK :-). I love this scent. The longer it stays on, the better it smells...delightful!

At the first, I couldn’t understand why people are so raving about this. As i got the flanker one, Aqua Chic, as a gift, it’s nice but not too special for me. Suddenly changed my mind after i got the original Alien. This is my second love at the first sniff after YSL Roses Des Vergers. This is a fresh but heavy, sensual but also innocent at the same time. Right amount of woods, amber and a bunch of my favorite note, jasmine. Alien is not complicated at all, only has 3 notes but leave a huge statement for the wearers. I don’t wear perfume to get many compliments from people. I wear it because i like it. But this purple gem is a crowd pleaser. People love it for it’s simplicity.

Mugler perfumes are nothing short of "a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma" and Alien is no exception.
Initial blasts are always "whoa" and in your face but you shouldn't be alarmed. Experiment with them and give them a chance because they usually evolve into this mesmerizing dry down that takes your breath away.
Now back to Alien.. it just made the top of my "want list". When I was at the mall yesterday, I did spray Alien on my neck and forearm. This magical aura kept surrounding me for the rest of the night and into this morning. Hubby was captivated.

I've put off reviewing the majestic and notorious Alien for too long...but the time is neigh.

What bothers me about Mugler fandom is that there's this undercurrent of competition ("Team Angel!!" "Team Alien!!!")...and you're almost pressured to adore 1 or two Mugler pillars (Alien, Angel, Aura, Womanity...not necessarily including flankers), and detest 1 or 2 entirely. Well, I love them all. LOVE.

Alien is a piercing cry; a crystal high-pitched horn of unrelenting RIPE jasmine. White Amber is only a backup singer, but Queen Jasmine needs her Lady In Waiting or she could not accomplish what she does. It's just enough to not be a one-note-wonder, but it remains so pared down that it's *implosive*, not EXPLOSIVE like Angel.

Occasionally I get faint whiffs of fruit, as if some grape peel emerges. This is why I believe people when they claim it's grape-y. I absolutely loathe synthetic grape, but it isn't a sweet/artificial/candy grape, it's organic and somewhat bitter. At any rate, it's infrequent and it eludes me most of the time.

Sometimes I hypothesize that Alien was born from the genius of Angel (sorry Angel haters, you can't escape the influence, Angel is historical). Angel is sweet, patchouli (dark and dingy), and a cornucopia of extremes, a bombardment of desserts. Alien is minimalistic and nearly equally as brutal with it's near singularity. Two main notes, combine a clean, SCREAMING indolic and indulgent, anti-sweet accord from some unworldly genius.

I cannot help but be moved as strongly, as this pulls the mind and challenges wearers just as much and Angel (or any of the other Mugler creations). It's absolutely strunning.

It's commonly (falsely) proclaimed that if you pull off Angel, you can't wear Alien (or vice versa). I believe it's human nature to take sides, and the Angel/Alien dichotomy is nearly political to frag-heads (is Aura the alternative "Green Party"? LMAO). I don't feel that this should be a persisting phenomenon, and one can absolutely be open-minded enough to wear both freely. Maybe I'm a unicorn, but I think the Mugler pillars make up jewels in a crown of artistry and can be uniquely appreciated.

Some have said that this is a good party/sexy fragrance, and I don't entirely disagree, but I do believe it's for the simple fact that it's so beautiful and strong with excellent projection. Nothing about this overtly comes off as erotic, at least not in my opinion. The jasmine is purely gorgeous and to call it a "sex bomb" almost seems to minimize it.

Nothing is like Alien, and nothing should attempt to be. This is wearable art indeed. And also quite historically groundbreaking.

A very follow-me scent, as if some kind of plastic-synthetic white ball - a phantom? - hangs behind the wearer's back. Mysterious, yes, but cheap at the same time, you will stand out from the crowd and get all the attention only because you cried and begged for it with this perfume.

And I had some Lavanila on from the night before. The three of these fragrances layer together is shockingly beautiful. I only wish that this had more staying power. Turn mugler fragrances, it's lasting power was questionable. That's why I'm going to purchase a huge bottle.

The encounter with this scent was,... confusing experience to me.

It smells like bug spray, in the beginning.
Head hurting, nose scrunching, eyes stinging.
          Was even nauseous, at times.

But after a while, it started to feel right.
It kind of agreed with my body chemistry it smells nice and not too, sharp or vicious.

But I guess it was expected.

Alien is my signature. I have an original bottle and almost all flankers. I have heard that it had been reformulated but had no need to buy a new bottle.
Yesterday I was travelling through the airport and straight to work, and as I couldn't make up my mind on what to spray, i went for the safe choice, Alien. It started as the original familiar smell maybe a little tamer, and then, simply and gradually disappeared to non -existence after 3 hours.

So the scent is pretty much the same but it has been watered down to just a blink of what our great Alien was.

I am sad the people that try it for first time won't agree with the older reviews and won't get to experience it either.

I want to be fecken BRUISED by jasmine!
          - And I'm not.

Here, it actually takes a back seat to the amber.

The dry-down is definitely an improvement...and it is lasting quite well.

I couldn't say it's super-unique, as so many reviewers have said before. The three notes are extremely common in perfume compositions, and that's fine. Just not unique.

As for being a "clubbing perfume"?
          ...Maybe?
I actually expected more pungent, sweet, MUCH stronger.
          It's actually much more...mature.
          I can't fully picture a teeny-bopper wearing this unless she raided her older sister's ( / brother's) or mother's perfume collection.

So...in saying that, it's actually more adaptable than its reputation.

To say it can be worn anytime is fine - I don't fully believe in those whole "Day scent", "Night scent", "Specific season scent" rules anyway.
          Who's got time for that??

          On the plus side:
          - It's lasting well.
          - It's kinda mature, so more women can wear it without fear they're "overstepping" the Almighty Rules of Perfumery.
          - Adaptable: Easy to wear it when and where you want.
          - The dry-down is nice, i.e the jasmine, woods, and amber becomes fairly even.
          - The bottle is epic. That design and colour is wizardly wonderful. :D

It's not at the top of my list to buy a full bottle, but it's worthy.

          ***

          Kitty rating: 7.5/10.

I was tempted to blind buy this based on reviews, but thought twice and got a sample first. Who would have thought something with such simple layers could evoke so many different feelings?

I put a spritz in my purse first to test the scent on fabric. I almost regretted it. The first whiff is really powerful and, as others have said, very synthetic in nature. My first thought was fruity plastic or a garden with a splash of paint thinner. But I gave it some time, knowing the dry down might give it some different notes. And yes, thankfully it did.

When I smell Alien on its own, I feel like I am breathing in the scent of frozen jasmine blossoms. I equally get suede, from the mix of wood and amber. I get no warmth from it, and it really confuses me because my nose is not immediately drawn to it but my brain makes me take another sniff.

When it's worn on the body, though, it takes on a bit of a different persona. The jasmine stands out most, and takes on the warmth that it misses when not on the skin. And although that synthetic aura lingers in the background, it gives Alien a somewhat masculine charm that suggests brute strength, like a studded leather jacket on a beautiful woman.

No matter how many times I get a whiff, my nose is still puzzled by it and somehow that made me want it more than if I had immediately liked it. Definitely will enjoy having this on my shelf.

This is a very beautiful fragrance. But unfortunately on my skin, it's just jasmine and it quickly disappears. I loved it when I tried it in the store with a blotter... In general, be sure to test this before buying on your skin.

I never planned to review Alien, but a friend gave me a sample of it, so here I go. My sample still says ?Thierry Mugler“, not just ?Mugler“, and the liquid in it has darkened, which makes me think that it might be a few years old.

Alien is said to be polarizing, but when you look at the love/like/dislike bar and the general reception it gets on this site, you will notice that all the other Mugler pillars (Angel, Aura and Womanity) get much more criticism and hate. Alien is not a gift-safe inoffensive crowdpleaser, but not THAT weird. I also smell it on others all the time, it‘s super popular.
I personally enjoy the warmer flankers like Liqueur de Parfum or Essence Absolute more than the original Alien, which smells a little dry and flat on me, but better on others.

Much has been said about the notes. It‘s an ambery oriental woody scent with an abstract floral overlay. The notes list says ?jasmine“, we all know that it‘s meant to be jasmine, and there are even several fragrances with a jasmine note that smell similar to Alien nowadays, but to be honest, nothing in this smells like real jasmine blossoms or any jasmine fragrance that came before. The name ?Alien“ makes perfect sense, it‘s like a metallic, neon grape-and-berry-tinged flower from outer space. Kind of cold and mentholated. Mixed with warm, carnal amber it gives Alien its unmistakable signature scent.
The scent softens a little over time, but otherwise stays the same from the opening to the last remainders of the drydown.

PS: Some say that newer bottles of Alien perform like a weak bodyspray. That’s a questionable statement. My sample might be old, but my fiancé‘s sister used Alien on our holidays last summer, and I can assure you that I could smell it on her all the time.

I'm one of the few people who doesn't like Alien.
"Doesn't like" is an understatement to be honest. I utterly hate it. After years of reading about how amazing and unique it is, sexy and gorgeous, I finally tested it out yesterday. The initial blast wasn't off putting at all. I didn't really pay attention to it because the opening was pretty generic so I was assuming the beauty would start once it dried down. Oh how wrong I was. Maybe an hour in I went to my aunts and uncle's house and when I'm taking off my coat my aunt asks if had been around people smoking. I was quite baffled because not at all. As I sat down in the living room I caught a whiff of something unpleasant but still hadn't put two and two together. Most likely because I was wearing a heavy winter coat and hadn't smelled my wrist properly since the store. After sitting down and chatting for a few minutes I realised what was going on. It was Alien, making its precence known.
Now obviously it has to be taken into account that scents will forever be a personal preference and how the skin amps up certain smells is based on our DNA. I'm not trying to trash a perfume just for the fun of it, but sadly Alien is one of the worst perfumes I've come across. On me that is. I have never smelled it on someone else that I'm aware of. Who knows, maybe I'm drooling when others wear it and just hate it on me. But whatever the case, on me this is not unique or sexy. It's screams grandma. It's old. And also I've smelled it many times before and I just can't put my finger on what or when. Maybe my great grandma had something similar on her dresser back in the 80's when I was a kid sniffing around her collection and trying on her fur coats.
Simply put Alien is an old lady scent on me and a powerful one at that. I got up twice to scrub my wrist with hot water and soap and it barely tamed the beast. Finally I grabbed a rubbing alcohol and scrubbed my wrist and then finally it died down a bit. Right now, almost 24 hours later, I can still smell it vaguely.
Alien pretty much gives me two notes, and that's Jasmine and Amber. Jasmine on steroids. In the dry down the Amber gets out and that's what the scent is to me, loud jasmine with some Amber. I'm not a floral lover in that sense, but I do like and sometimes love Jasmine in certain blends, but in this case it doesn't do good things for me. The sillage is a beast on me, as my two sisters and aunt complained about it sitting in the same room as me and while two just disliked the scent, one smelled cigarettes on me. Let's just say that that is not the scent trail I want to leave behind. But the good things about it is that it lasts and lasts and if you want to make your precence known, this might be it for you.
Jasmine lovers out there, this might be your dream. Obviously not all skin chemistries will turn this into cigarette smoke. I'd actually love to smell it on someone else to maybe catch the beauty others see in it. But for now it's a hard no for me.

For me it sounds like simply jasmine, nothing more. Too simple. Why did I buy it? When I tested I heard some extra rich notes, that sounded really sparkling in the frosty winter air, and I was amazed. After I bought this perfume, I couldn't hear them any more...

This scent is really something. I got strange comments about it all day. I’m South Korean, and two people said that I smelled like an American women. One of them went into specifics saying that they could smell this scent a lot in the US, and she couldn’t figure out if she liked it or not.

Well, that said, I love this scent. I love Jasmine, so getting this was a no-brainer for me. It is very simple, yet unique. I feel this has its own personality that can dominate the wearer, which is a rare identity for a fragrance. I only ever got that with Chanel no. 5 parfum. To me, this is iconic. I can see why some people might not enjoy it, but this leaves a strong impression on other people.

I did hear that the current prism colored limited bottle has the reformulated juice of Alien. It still has great performance. I only sprayed once under my shirt, and it still had decent projection. Longevity is great. It stays on the skin after I took a shower. I can smell strong Iso-super E after a long wear and wash, and that’s the only downside of this fragrance for me.

I love Alien, but the synthetic smell can be a bit off putting - I can certainly understand why this is a love-hate fragrance, especially when it comes to the EDP. Otherwise, I think it's a very bold and unique fragrance ( like most of Muglers perfumes ). It can come across as tacky, it's definitely a fragrance for a wild night out, but I have a soft spot for ''slutty'' perfumes so I don't mind :P

If you wanna stand out, don't bother - like Black Opium, Alien is one of the most recognizable scents. Every girl knows it. But if you want to get compliments from men, then this is perfect. Usually men don't give a shit about perfume, but I remember a guy coming up to me and asking me what my perfume was, he said he couldn't stop smelling it haha.

I finally got around to sampling Alien, and I have to say that I was surprised by how easy to like and approachable it is. Reviews had prepared me for something more polarizing, but I’m having a hard time imagining what those offended by this are smelling that I’m not. It’s most interesting quality is that it’s simultaneously ethereal and imposing: Enya being blasted at a nightclub, airy spirits during a particularly raucous night out, or a monumental marble sculpture of a dragonfly. It’s jasmine, but jasmine blown up and cropped to the point of abstraction. It’s huge yet sheer, and seems to almost vibrate around me after application. It lives up to the hype, but not in the way I expected.

This perfume has been my signature since for roughly 13 years, I was gifted it by my sons dad for my birthday and I'm assuming it was probably newly released then. The very moment that I inhaled this I was completely and utterly floored, mesmerised would be an understatement, I knew that he had unknowingly chosen an absolute masterpiece that would go down in history as a total legend. I had never in my life smelt something so unique, so addictive and so utterly amazing, I was quite literally in shock at its beauty and I continue to be to this day. I have tried more perfumes than I can count since then, ive never wanted to replace this not in a million years but I've sampled ALOT of spring/summer perfumes as i find this a tad too much for summer and ive tried alot of well known wintry perfumes recently purely to see if there is anything more outstanding than this out their mainly out of intrigue and there isnt..not even close..(in my opinion of course), this is just other-worldly, the name is bang on fir this scent. I've read other reviews saying that this isnt as unique as it is made out to be but it is..yes it's mainly jasmine amped up to the high heavens and only has 3 notes but regardless this IS unique, if anyone disagrees with that then they need to suggest another perfume that smells like this, ..they wont be able to.

I can completely understand why this is a love or hate perfume even though I love it - I think this really depends on how it works on your skin but it is quite a strong scent, most people who smell this on me go out and buy a bottle of it themselves with haste (friends included) which is pretty annoying lol and I find men are absolutely in awe of this fragrance, I've been looked at alot by guys who look confused and intrigued and most have said they find this scent incredibly sexy and a complete turn on (I'm not saying all guys like the same but this is just from my experience, on the flipside there have been a few women who have thought that this is a little masculine, I do understand that too, I wouldnt say its unisex but I do think a guy could pull this off if he was brave, I love this scent so much I really do not care who wears it, i would love to smell it on a guy too it's pure sex in a bottle but despite the sex appeal of this and how bold it is I think it's actually more suited to introverts, it adds mystery and attraction to an already mysterious person, someone who is private and a tad difficult to read (in my opinion).

I'll be in love with this fragrance forever ??

I absolutely adore Alien. Cannot get enough of it. I've been abducted by it and I like it. So much so that I purchased an alright imitation, just so that I could cover my bed in it and sleep with Alien.

So for me it's still one of the most unique scents that I've discovered. It takes me through a storm cloud of different accords...high on those woody, amber and animalic charms. For me it also smells spicy. A sexy peppery smell. It pleases my closet goth side.

This whole floral thing is confusing me. Yes there's jasmine but it's blended into the amber and woodiness SO BEAUTIFULLY that it doesn't scream a big floral scent to me? A floral perfume to me is something like Anais Anais... which I can't stand. Also I think be weary of judgements on this scent purely for the jasmine. There's so much more to Alien...it's very well crafted.

It's soooooo edgy and rebellious. Dark. Bold. Alien doesn't give a damn about being conventional. Alien hasn't conformed. A sci-fi goddess that kicks butt.

It's a popular perfume here in Spain which surprises me considering it's a 'misfit' scent but I guess that shows how alluring it is.

I'm a Poison or Kenzo Jungle kinda gal...so Alien's bizarreness suits me down to a t.

I've owned this beauty for the last 3 months. Mugler's Alien is a beautiful floral perfume that works so well on my skin. I followed the fragrance community and purchased this in fear of reformulation. I'd heard so much of the iconic Alien but never really smelled it before. I had a case of FOMO.

What I received is a beautiful floral, jasmine centric perfume which lasts most of the day on my clothing. I really enjoy it. There is nothing indolic nor bothersome about it. It is fresh and a bit wild/green. I do not get the dark, indolic, sexy beast that others experience. On my skin, this is more of a signature scent. I'd venture to say that it is even "elegant". Lucky for me.

I've been wearing Alien in mild weather (45-75F) and I'm really enjoying it. If this is the reformulation, then I love it! The jasmine in this perfume is reminiscent of the jasmine I get from Michael Kors Wonderlust. They are different enough but I'm just lucky to have the chemistry that gets the same feeling from both. Gorgeous perfumes which I will keep enjoying in my large collection.

EDIT: I've owned Alien for about a year now and I think it has gotten creamier as time passed. This perfume is potent in longevity and projection. I can't imagine Alien being stronger in the pre-formulation. This one is more than enough. I've also noticed that this has the potential to deliver a searing headache. I still enjoy it but, that headache.......

First smelled this one years ago, when I would spend hours in the perfume section of my local department store as a teenager, exploring the world of perfumes. At that point of my life, I found Mugler perfumes (Angel, Alien) definitely intriguing but much too mature for my tastes. I also couldn't see how a perfume with so much intensity could be worn day-to-day.

Fast forward a couple months ago, I was shopping in the high-end section of Nordstrom and came across this beautiful blonde sales associate in her mid-20s. She was standing a couple feet away from me but the air suddenly filled with a soft but absolutely beautiful scent that completely mesmerized me. I asked what she was wearing - and said it was this, Alien. I was shocked.

Finally, after reading all the amazing reviews about Alien, I decided to ask for a sample and tried it on my skin today for the first time. Since I was heading to the office, I was terrified of over-spraying it (since I know how much of a powerbomb Mugler perfumes are), so I sprayed a *tiny* amount from the tester under my shirt, the back of my neck and my wrists.

Immediately, I got a strong blast of a cold, icy jasmine, followed a few minutes later by a sort of sweet grape note. The scent continued to smell of jasmine/grapes for about an hour or so, until the warm amber base started to reveal itself, softening the scent. I asked two colleagues what they thought of the scent (they smelled my wrist) - both of them (guys) said they liked it, but that they were surprised by how light it was, that they had to come super close to smell it. So I'm left confused as to whether I under-sprayed or this perfume simply doesn't project on me.

As for the scent itself, I find that it smells incredibly feminine and clean - I'm just not sure I have the personality to wear it (don't usually lean towards heavy white floral scents). It definitely has a mysterious, icy vibe to it, which I think suits my personality in a way. I will have to try this one a few more times and see how it develops to come to a final conclusion. For now, I definitely recommend trying it on your skin, it's certainly unique and I can see it smelling different on everyone.

Edit: bought the perfume because I thought it would grow on me, but after a few tries, I decided to return it - unfortunately, just knew this wasn't for me.

The first 20 minutes are difficult to assimilate, you don't know what to think about it, but the drydown is so pleasant.
Don't hate me for saying it, but it's identical to Avon's Far Away! Only with greater distinction, the price paid for it is noted. A very good option for someone that likes a lighter powdery aromas.

What a beautiful perfume! It gets so many compliments from strangers!.
I find that it’s recognisable too because when I was in the London Dungeons gift shop, the lady behind the counter was like “Is that Alien?” (I was across the other side of the shop may I add!)
It’s such a gorgeous, clean scent and feels even more amazing sprayed on after my morning showers. So refreshing!
The only downside is I can’t wear it too often as it is very expensive but that just makes it more special for occasions I think!

The bottle is mystical and very out of this world! (You can get refillable ones too so you’re not just stacking bottles or paying extra.

I do not understand the hype around Alien whatsoever. I think it's just clever marketing, because we must admit that bottle is very unique. The fragrance itself however it very generic, smells like every other white floral I've ever come across, nothing 'alien' about it. It's not bad, but certainly not worth the price tag.

the first time i smelled alien, a decade or so ago, i came away thinking 'is that it ? what's the big deal ?'

the second time i tried her, around 5 years later, i decided i actively disliked her.

and the third time, 5 years after that, i'm intoxicated. i can't get enough. this time, i experienced alien not by spraying her on paper or on myself, but by hugging a dear friend. good god, i said, is that alien ?! the perfume had melted into her hair and leopard faux-fur jacket, and exuded a confidently strange aura that helped alien, finally, 'click' for me. i get her now. i want her now. and, perhaps what's best about her, she really doesn't care if you don't like her.

i certainly encourage anyone who has tried alien and come away unimpressed to return to her and see if any magic happens.

HATE this scent. Get sick whenever I smell this. Everyone I know loves it however. :)

EDIT: hmmm.. This grew on me. I did get obsessed with this small tester I received from Alien Eau Extraordinaire. Love love love that one. The original Alien has grown on me and I feel like it's because of Alien Eau Extraordinaire. Helped me smell the beauty of it. I still think the original is too strong for me, but I tend to love it when others wear it. I guess there's an Alien for all of us. :)

I didn't hop on the space ship for years. I would get random samples of Alien in orders and enjoy wearing it, but I didn't buy it until now. I bought Angel too because why not. They're both love it or hate it perfumes. Alien is a woody ambery jasmine that's a bit oddball, but wearable. It was ahead of it's time just like Angel. I appreciate Mugler perfumes because they're bringing something different to the table.

I really wanted to love this perfume. I was excited, I sprayed it.... All I smell is Raid. It smells like bug spray, exactly like if someone went to clean up ants in a kitchen and then sprayed Jasmine air freshener to try to cover up the Raid smell.

Well, after many years of wondering what the fuss was all about, I finally tried this one. Yes, it's got vanilla, but for me it gets too mixed up with the jasmine note that I just can't get past. I like white flowers in general - huge tuberose lover! And I love real jasmine, but this perfume is just off putting for me. Which I think may be a good thing since it's so darn popular :)

It’s a pretty scent, nothing exciting. The silage isn’t that strong on my skin neither.

Definitely a night scent. Its extremely strong coming out of the bottle. 2 spritz is definitely enough. The scent smells synthetic. There is nothing natural about it. But hence the name "Alien" it is definitely a big question mark.

If I had to describe this perfume, its powdery but bitter. I had a man come up behind me in a bar lean in to put his drink down and whispered in my ear you smell so good.

This is the ONLY perfume to ever make me chase down a girl like a crazy person to ask what perfume she was wearing. It’s that captivating. I get compliments often on it. It’s warm and memorable. I can think of the snell even when I’m not wearing it. But it’s universal. I’ve never met a girl who didn’t like alien. It reminds me a bit of chance edp and maybe si too. This perfume is winter personified. Perfect for cold days but also strong and sexy for a night out. Lasts all day. A safe gift for any girl

I ordered a sample of Alien to try out, & I’m not sure if it’s been reformulated or not as I’ve never worn the original. On me, it’s a soapy, slightly sweet, moderately long lasting scent with a heavy sillage during the first hour before becoming moderate. Honestly, I expected more from this based on the reviews I’ve read & watched. This was a bit underwhelming to me so maybe it has been reformulated. I like it, but I would not purchase a full bottle of this version. For reference, my version is after the brand changed its name from “Thierry Mugler” to just “Mugler”.

Edit: I purchased a “Thierry Mugler” Alien travel spray to see if there was a difference, and there is to my nose. They’re similar but with the travel spray, I get mostly a salty & sweet yet animalic ambery fragrance & a bit of soapiness. This one I can’t stop sniffing the areas where I sprayed it & would certainly purchase a full bottle of it (if I can find it).

I hear so many reviews on YouTube and on here about this being so strong and in your face. I don’t know if it was reformulated recently. But I’ve tried this on me a few time since in Bloomies and Ulta and it’s barely noticeable on my skin. A faint jasmine that fades pretty quick. Definitely not strong. Is it just me or did they change it? I wanted to love it, I don’t hate it just wish it had better potentcy and longevity.

As a fan of oddball perfumes, I really like Alien, and the bottle is one of my favorites of all time. Unfortunately, it is a bit of a victim of its own popularity; I smell it everywhere, so I got rid of my bottle. The scent itself... I don't know, I don't think it smells like jasmine at all, it just smells distinctively and unmistakably like Alien.

I recently bought my a bottle of this beauty. Never smelled it anywhere or on no one..I know where have I been? It was love at first sniff on a tester paper, I did not test on skin. All night I would get wiffs of it from this paper strip that was on my night stand. I decided to buy it after smelling this irresistible purplely potion. After I tried it on skin, it did not disappoint, how I wished it lasted longer on my skin though. I find it irresistible, but I've never gotten compliments from anyone. Maybe because it disappears too fast, or it's not projecting? not sure, but I still love it. Sometimes I wear it to go to bed.

Recently I was able to sample Alien when I wasn't anosmic. I can't believe what I have been missing. It is fantastic! Smells so like the color purple. Strong and feminine with perhaps what translates to predominantly sweet grape and or violet notes. This is what I had hoped Insolence and Galliano to be like.
